BRASS INLAY PRINTING WITH JENNEY KELLEY - WEDNESDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2026
Spend a fabulous day designing and hand printing a silk scarf using beautifully crafted Indian brass-inlay printing blocks. Unlike traditional wooden blocks, brass-inlay blocks produce a fine, delicate print, that is particularly suitable for fine fabrics.
The workshop will begin with a demonstration, followed by printing exercises on paper to help you become familiar with handling the blocks and applying pigment. You will explore a range of motifs, colour combinations and placement techniques, building confidence before moving onto fabric.
During the morning, you will develop your understanding of pattern, including both repeat and more freeform designs, as well as how to align and register your prints. You’ll then print a set of hand-made khadi paper cards, along with matching envelopes and a drawstring pouch to store them in.
In the afternoon, you will design and print your own beautiful long silk scarf. Jenney will guide you through shaping your design, considering placement and composition, and bringing it to life in print.
You will also be introduced to methods for fixing colour to ensure your finished piece is colourfast and durable.
What to Expect
Expert tutelage in a friendly and relaxed environment.
Create your own designs and learn how to get the best print.
You will go home with a silk scarf, 6 hand made khadi cards and envelopes, printed paper, AND cotton samples
gain the skills to continue exploring block printing at home.
