DELVING DEEPER INTO ART – WITH DANI HUMBERSTONE 21st and 22nd SEPTEMBER, 12th OCTOBER, 16th NOVEMBER 2026
Colour & Abstraction
A Three Week Curious House Series with Dani Humberstone
Abstract painting is often misunderstood. It can appear effortless, even random, but the most compelling abstract works are carefully considered. Every mark, shape and, above all, every colour has a purpose.
This new Curious House series invites you to discover why. We will start by looking for inspiration at Tate Modern, where we'll spend time looking closely at works by some of the great masters of abstract art, exploring how they use colour, composition and balance to create paintings that resonate long after you've walked away.
Armed with fresh eyes and new ideas, the following day we'll return to our beautiful classroom at The Bell in Ticehurst for the first of three relaxed morning workshops. Guided by Dani, you'll explore the principles of colour theory, discover how colours interact and influence one another, and learn why the placement of colour is often the difference between a successful abstract painting and one that simply feels decorative.
